Terry Orth and Richard Price launched Orth Construction Company in 1999 with the dream of providing affordable, well-built homes throughout Northeast Tennessee. Today, the company offers fine houses and condominiums in some of the Tri-Cities’ most desirable communities, with locations in Johnson City, Kingsport, Jonesborough, Piney Flats, and Gray. Orth Construction has now provided high-quality homes to hundreds of families.
Orth Construction’s commitment to quality and affordability extends from the very beginning of the home-building process all the way to the full-year limited warranty. Our participation in Tennessee Valley Authority’s energy right® program earned us the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 energy right® Award for Highest Volume Builder of Single Family New Homes in the region. In 2007, Terry Orth was honored as the Johnson City Area Home Builders Association’s Builder of the Year. We continually seek to find new ways to improve our processes and to build the best home possible.
Prices range from around $100,000 to $300,000, with a median home price of $175,000. Our homes are marketed by some of the Tri-Cities top real estate agents. In addition to attractive pricing, we were one of the first builders in the area to have a full warranty team in place – a team that responds within 48 hours to any homeowner’s call.
Sometimes our warranty responders probably feel like the lonely repairman in the famous Maytag ad campaign. For every 100 homes under warranty, the company averages only five open callback requests. "We have a quality control process in place that is really working," says Terry Orth. "Our checklist at each stage ensures virtually zero defects. Our team approach to concentrating on quality is working very well." One of the secrets to maintaining this level of quality performance is maintaining an excellent total team – from employees to the contractor and supplier chain.
"We have 19 employees and 100 subcontractors," says Orth. "Since 1999, we’ve built lasting relationships with the best employees and subcontractors in the business – nobody works for us unless they meet very high standards."
